Kinny's GPS hacking unlocking page
GENIV menu system

About:

Originally this was started as a simple menu for an unlocked Omnitech GPS but I keep adding features for it and got a few other GPS units that it became more of a menu system for Unlocked GPS units based on WinCE5.0.  Thanks to the community for posting their finding and files. this wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for them.  Here's my contribution back

Hacked and unlocked Omnitech GPS and Nokia 500 GPS and Mio C320/C520 GPS.   For such low cost GPS units once u unlocked and put in more software these GPS kicks the lama's ass.   Yes my web design skillz suckz.  for complaints and death threats email me at:  rimmerchant    at      yahoo.com

What's New:
6-17-9:   Came up with the name "GenIV MS" for the name of my concoction, since I nevered named it in the beginning

6-17-9:   I got a Mio C320 the other day and was messing with it to install my menu system.

6-17-9:   Got around to uploading V1.9 of my menu system.
Here are the changes from v1.5 - v1.9

- replaced the "Quick UI" with "Mio Menu"  (a clone of the default menu from a Mio C320 unit but with a major feature update)
- Mio Menu have the ability to select from 8 gps software as the "MipMap" launch software.
- Added "MioPocket" to the interface selection screen.
- MioPocket works perfectly and can coexist with my menu system.  (though a reboot is required to switch back and forth.)

View the video of it in action: (even though it's on Mio C320 it works on all the gps unit)

New "Mio Menu" interface with 8 different navigation software selection

New Mio Pocket coexistance with my menu system

Download the v1.9 patch here:
http://www.geniv.com/download/iPhoneOMNI+NOkiav1.8patch.rar

INSTALLATION:

1) delete (make a backup first) of these two directories on your SD card
                                \iphone\uiquick
                                \iphone\uiselect

2) extract the package to the \iphone directory.

6-8-9:   I  finally got around to uploading V1.5 of my menu system
Here are the changes from v1.0 - v1.5 (Affects both Omnitech & Nokia)

- Added 3 more GPS software: Igo Amigo, TomTom, Garmin (total of 7 gps software)
- made 2nd page for gps software list
- Modified AMigo to support TTS and share contents with existing Igo8.  This way you don't have to store
1.4 gigs of redundant data on your SD card
- If there is more than one page of items I added a arrow icon for next page
- You can tap the bottom icon again to move to next page also
- Added an entire page of games from the Amigo game addons
Direct access to the games from Amigo (kinda stupid to have to start and wait for Amigo to start just to play the games)
      * Sometimes the game will say "in demo" mode. if that happens start up and shut down Amigo and it the games will run normally
- Added GPSTimeSync on startup to display the correct time
- Added two more interface menu
- Added a interface selection  and the ability to make the gps boot up to any of the different menus
- Replaced Shinco Player (It sucks and have slow startup) with Core Player (You can minimize it to have music play in background :)
- uploaded new youtube videos of the new interface

New Youtube Videos of the new v1.5 features in action.

Here's v1.5 demostration: shows the improvement I made to the menu

Here's v1.5 demostration: Multiple User Interface (can be set for bootup too)

Even though it shows the Omnitech the same thing works on the Nokia too

http://nokia500.wetpaint.com/page/Unlocking

    You can ask around there

WHAT SO SPECIAL ABOUT MY MENU AND SETUP?
1) Everything I mentioned above for the Omnitech
2) FM transmitter Fix.
    - enabled Boost feature for stronger transmission,  now it works really well
    - enable wider range of frequencies to broadcast to
3) Fix the default storage size from 5.4meg to 1.6meg thus freeing about 3.8meg of precious ram for programs
4) Put little icon for easy FM transmitter control
5) enable hardware button control of music playback so you can listen to music in background during GPS navigation or anything else.

NOKIA 500 vs. OMNITECH GPS.

Nokia Wins at:

- hardware feels of higher quaity
- TMC for traffic.. (though u need a subscription for it and from what I heard it doesn't work in the USA)
- Bluetooth
- FM transmitter
- Faster CPU  (400mhz vs 266mhz )
- 3 hardware buttons
- none of that fucking (can I say that on the web?  why yes because it's my web) calibration problem with the touch screen
- does not hardreset everytime u power down.
- can read SDHC cards I think up to 32 gb.  wheres the Omnitech can only read up to 4gb non SDHC cards.

Omnitech Wins at:

- Any idiot can hack it.  and practically impossible to brick
- more physical ram about 6 megs more
- low cost,    about half the cost of the Nokia
- better default navigation software IMHO.
- lower overhead when the OS loads.  (takes less memory)
- seems more speedy in certain programs (navigon) than the Nokia with a faster CPU,  I guess more free memory here helped a lot
- GPS reception is more sensitive and better than the Nokia

Both GPS seems to have different set/combintation of Wince modules loaded  so some programs work for one gps and not for another.
ex. Fortuna Player works on Nokia but not Omnitech
ex. Bubble popping game works on Omnitech GPS but not Nokia
(but screw that I would rather have a nice looking/fast media playback program than a stupid bubble popping game)

MIO C320 / C520 hacked:

SD image download of my setup cumming soon

This is a pretty fun unit to work with, easier to hack than Nokia but not as idiot proof as the Omnitech.

Unlocked Mio C320 C520 GPS 2of3 - 4 different user interface (GenIV MS v1.9 )

All the videos/features from the Omnitech and Nokia units pertains to the Mio C320 also

WHAT SO SPECIAL ABOUT MY MENU AND SETUP?
1) Everything I mentioned above for the Omnitech
2) Fix the default storage size from 5.4meg to 1.6meg thus freeing about 3.8meg of precious ram for programs

Missing Map Data Files:

** I left the map files for the navigation softwares out of my package  **
This way I don't have to upload 8gigs of files. but all the necessary programs are included.
Don't ask me for the map files.  Those are fine programs worthy of your support.  I
encourage you to purchase them from the associated vendor/developer to get the map data files
